Mad River Youth Soccer League, Inc. (“MRYSL”) is a non-profit California corporation, exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. MRYSL is also registered with the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts.

OUR ACTIVITIES:
MRYSL annually provides services to over 1,000 children in Northern Humboldt County. Our activities include teaching soccer to youth from the age of 4 to under the age of 19 at all skill levels, educating coaches, educating parents about their role in youth sport, organizing games and practices, providing for the facilities to conduct team practices and games, organizing teams to play league games, training referees to referee games, conducting tournaments, organizing training academies, workshops, and summer camps.

We also promote healthy lifestyles for our children, as reflected in our adoption of the “ReThink Your Drink” campaign, providing healthy food at our concession stands, and “No Tobacco Use” policies, among many others.

OUR VISION:
We envision a community where every child has the opportunity to grow and develop into a healthy, competent and caring adult through playing soccer.

OUR MISSION:
MRYSL will provide an effective soccer program that features excellent coaching, good sportsmanship, building character and having fun.

OUR PURPOSE:
The purpose of MRYSL shall be to develop, promote and administer the game of soccer among the youth under the age of 19 without regard to race, creed, or sex within the Cities of Arcata, Big Lagoon, Manila, McKinleyville, Trinidad, Orleans, Fieldbrook, Blue Lake, Bayside, Samoa, Willow Creek, and Hoopa Valley and its surrounding communities.

OUR PROGRAMS
Rec Program:
Our rec program is our largest program, by the number of children we serve. Its purpose is to provide area youth, from kindergarten through high school, with a healthy physical activity, to develop good sportsmanship in a fun environment, and to teach soccer skills. Everyone that signs up by the deadline is guaranteed a spot on a team and practices are usually held at a school playground. Recreational soccer provides a fun experience that facilitates growth and development. We also emphasize training our rec coaches, so children playing in our rec program can also receive quality instruction.

Mad River United (“MRU”):
Our MRU program provides players with the skills they need to take their game to the next level. This might mean trying to make next year’s club team, their high school varsity team, ODP, or even a university team.

MRU is dedicated to player development by adhering to a club-wide curriculum. By stressing technical and tactical skills, while paying close attention to the physical and psychological demands of the youth game, our players have all of the skills they need to play at any level!

MRU provides the best coaching staff and player development in Humboldt County for boys and girls from U10 all the way through U19. With a focus on technical and tactical skills each player will leave MRU ready to face any challenge that comes their way!

In the fall, MRU teams typically play a traditional, 11 v 11 game, against teams from throughout northern California. In the Spring, we offer a small-sided game experience, playing against other teams in Humboldt County. All MRU players must try out; cuts based on skill level are made.

Redwood Classic:
Our annual soccer tournament, held over two days in August at soccer fields in Arcata and McKinleyville. Teams come from throughout northern California and southern Oregon to play in our Redwood Classic Tournament.

Camps & Academies:
We offer a number of summer camps through our Mad Skillz Soccer Camps and UK International Soccer Camps. Our Camps are taught by top area soccer coaches, and we also try to involve players from the HSU soccer teams as well as the best area high school soccer players, too!
