Mad River United Scores BIG at RV Cup!
As a capstone to the spring five MRU teams ventured north for the Rogue Valley Cup. ALL five teams ended up competing in either the final and consolation match for their respective age group. Again yet another great accomplishment for Mad River!
The MRU U10B’s took home first place while MRU U12B Black and MRU U12B Red took home third place in the gold and silver divisions respectfully. MRU U19B’s and MRU U15G’s took fourth place after hard fought matches.
Congratulations to everyone as you made MRU very proud!

Mad River United Tryouts/Team Formation!!!

|
Tryout Results are now in from the U10 Tryouts! |
Fall 2010 Tryout Results U10-U14
|
Recently there has been some questions and confusion about the tryouts and team formation brought to our attention. What about U12B's?U12B's coaches have finally been selected. Heath Ford and Jason Tower will be Co-Coaches for one team, and Phil Rouse will coach the second team. ALL players that tried out will be placed on a team. I'm sorry that it took so long to get coaches hired and I appreciate your patience.
What are Redshirt Players? Having Redshirt Players on team rosters is a new policy at MRU this season. The idea is to give players that would otherwise not make a team, the opportunity to practice for an entire season. One of the difficulties with such a small population is that there are not multiple soccer team around for players to go to if they do not make a team. By allowing them to train with a MRU team for an entire year they will be able to improve at the game. Redshirt players do not play in games, however they do have the opportunity to do so if injuries occur to other players. Redshirt players must qualify for the team they are tryout out for (score of 2.8 or better), be approved by the coach, and by the Director of Coaching/Competitive Committee. Players cannot play rec soccer and competitive soccer at the same time because players need to be registered to one specific team. ALL redshirt players will receive full uniform kit so that they can participate in scrimmages, exhibitions games, and some tournaments based on the coaches desecration.
If you have any questions about Mad River United contact the Director of Coaching, Sean Connors, at MadRiverUnited_SPC@yahoo.com or 716-479-3068.

Current Mad River United U19B Piakai Henkel is taking an amazing step forward in his soccer career this coming August. Recently Piakai was offered a spot in the world renowned Paris Saint-Germain Football Club (PSG) Youth Academy in Paris, France. This is a great opportunity for any soccer player, much less an American soccer player.
Congratulations to Piakai and good luck next year!

Mad River United U12G took second place in league play this past 2009 fall season. While only giving up an amazing 5 goals against, MRU U12G finished the year 9-2-1, bouncing back from a disapointing campaign last season.
Congratulations to the team and coaching staff for all of their success this year!

Mad River United Has Two Great U12B Teams!
|
|
Most clubs would be happy to have one great team at each age level, but at MRU we have two great U12B teams. Mad River United Black and Mad River United Red finished 2nd and 4th respectively, this past fall league season.
Congratulations to the players and coaches of these teams!

| Mad River United U12G Score Silver Medal in Ft. Bragg! |

The Mad River United U12 girls had a frightfully good time at the Fort Bragg Spookfest Tournament. They scared off opponents to go undefeated in preliminary games and finished with a hauntingly grounded 2nd place. This was Mad River United’s first encounter with the Spookfest, but it won’t likely be the last!
Congratulations to the entire team on a brilliant performance!

Arcata, CA – Mad River’s 12 year-old boys bested all-comers in their season opening tournament. Despite tough competition from as far away as Sonoma and Redding, Mad River used their home field advantage to take home the gold in the 2009 Redwood Classic held in Arcata and McKinleyville this past weekend.
Mad River earned the top trophy after a tough fought, 1-0 win over Fortuna, which earned them the best record in the seven team, round-robin style tournament. Despite a slow start against a strong Sonoma squad, Mad River rallied to win its next three games in impressive form – scoring 15 and letting in only 2.
The team’s success was anchored in its superb goal tending (Tab Heinz, Addison Prentiss) and on the feet of its strikers and top scorers (Jake Verhaegh, Dane Malkus, Nick Black). However, it was its central engine room (Canyon Robins, Collin Townsend, Russ Taylor, Aiden Carter) that allowed the team to dictate play.
Congrats to all of the players and Mad River soccer for a great win and a memorable tournament.

| Mad River United U12G Wins the Bronze! |

Tough defense and stellar goalkeeping is the only way to describe this U12 Girls team that did not allow a single goal during the entire 2009 Redwood Classic Tournament!
Starting out strong the girls won their first two games with the combined score of 5-0. During the semi-final game Mad River United faced a difficult AC United team and battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation. After two overtime periods and the girls ended up falling 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Immediately bouncing back Mad River United captured 3rd place by beating local rival Eel River Rapids (Fortuna) 1-0!
Congratulations to the entire team and the coaching staff for a great weekend of games!
