As long as the fields are open, MRYSL teams will usually play games in the rain. However, if the owners of the fields close their fields, then MRYSL teams (MRU and Rec) may not use the fields; games or practices are cancelled.
If the owners of the fields have not closed the fields, then on the morning of the game, the MRYSL president will decide whether field conditions are too bad or dangerous to play.
For games involving teams traveling to our area, we will make the decision whether to cancel a game or not due to weather conditions at least 24 hours before game time. The decision is made based on field conditions and player safety, how much it rained in the last 24-48 hours and/or how much it is raining or expected to rain the morning of the games.
The MRYSL President, in consultation with the Referee Coordinator, can cancel games prior to the scheduled time of play. The only person authorized to cancel a game on the field is the referee scheduled for that game after (s)he personally inspects the field. Coaches cannot cancel the game on the day of the game, even by mutual consent.
In the event of rain, teams should assume that games will be played, and proceed to the field, unless otherwise notified by their coach.
If fields are closed, MRYSL will endeavor to notify coaches by posting a notice on the home page of www.mrysl.org. MRYSL will also endeavor to communicate field closures via facebook, and by voice mail. It is coaches responsibilty to check the web site or hotline and to notify their team. If you are the home coach you should contact the other coach to tell them of cancellation. Division 4 games that are rained out are usually not made up.
"Field Closed" signs posted by the town or schools will be more current and take precedence over any notices on the website or hotline. No MRYSL team -- rec or MRU -- may use a field that has been closed by the owner.
Every effort is made to play MRU games when we are hosting teams from out of the area. We may have alternate fields available.
